SLAGLE
James Rea Slagle, 75, died peacefully at home on June 26, 2021.
Born May 16, 1946 to Robert and Jane Slagle, he graduated from Delaware Hayes High School and Miami University where he was a member of Phi Delta Gamma fraternity. He served in the US Navy.
Jim married Diane S. Slagle on June 20, 1981 and was father to Christian Thomas Slagle.
A self-employed farmer, Jim loved his hours in the country, the agricultural community and its friends, and worked hard and took great pride in carrying out his ancestors’ legacy on the family’s farm. Jim also had a strong sense of civic duty and enjoyed his terms of service on several local boards, city council, and as city auditor. He was a member of Kiwanis and the First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by sister Nancy (Ken, dec) Husband of Phoenix, AZ; sisters-in-law Nancy (Harold) Weese of Jekyll Island, GA, and Susan (Jim) Abdnor of Arlington Heights, IL; mother-in-law Sally (Tom, dec) Sisterhen of Hilliard; numerous nieces and nephews including Julie Fitzpatrick, Cathy Husband, Amy Sepiol, Jon Abdnor, Brian, David and Mark Weese, and their families; aunt Elsie Slagle of London, and her daughter Stephanie (Steve) Schellin of Greenwood, IN.
Jim delighted in spending time with his large extended family and was fortunate to have much of it living in Madison County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, aunt Ruth Young, and uncles Matthew Rea, Richard, William, Joe, and Frank Slagle.
Jim was diagnosed with an oligodendroglioma brain tumor in December of 2018 and fought it bravely to the end. The family especially thanks to the staff of Ohio’s Loving Care Hospice, the Neuro-Oncology Team at The James Brain and Spine Institute, Madison Health, and Ohio Living’s Westminster-Thurber Rehab for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be held at the EBERLE-FISHER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 103 North Main Street, London on Thursday, July 1 from 4:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, July 2 at the First United Methodist Church in London with Pastors Dave Leckrone and Steve Schellin officiating. Interment will follow at Kirkwood Cemetery. Friends may also call the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in memory of Jim to Madison Health, 210 North Main Street London, Ohio 43140, or to Neuro-Oncology Novel Therapies and Research Fund (Fund# 314420) at the OSU James Cancer Hospital where gifts can be made online at go.osu.edu/Jim Slagle or by check mailed to The James Cancer Hospital at P.O.
