Harvey Chastain

CHASTAIN Harvey Chastain, 81, of London, died at 5:34PM Thursday, March 14, 2013 in the Hospice of Okeechobee in Florida after a very brief and unexpected illness. Born April 25, 1931 in Copper Hill, Tennessee, he was a son of Harvey C. and Mattie M. (Dilbeck) Chastain. Harvey loved to golf, fish, tinker with things, and do yard work. He spent his winters in Okeechobee, FL and his summers in London. An MP in the US Army, he was stationed in Korea and Japan during the Korean conflict. After being discharged from the Army he moved to Columbus where he met his surviving wife of 61 years, Connie (Smith) Chastain. He was retired from General Motors and worked many years as a realtor for Saxton Real Estate. Along with his wife, Connie, Harvey is survived by children, Doug (Joellen) Chastain of Lexington, OH, Dwayne Chastain of West Jefferson, OH, and Susan (Jerry) Malone of London; grandchildren, Todd, Jeremy, Monique, Eddie, Kyle, Adam, Jared, and Dalton; brothers, Tommy (Margaret) Chastain, William (Wilma) Chastain, and Doug (Kathy) Chastain; sisters, Bettye Johnson, and Patricia Chastain; nieces and nephews; and a brother in law, David Lemery. Harvey was preceded in death by a son, Dennis; a grandson, Michael; his parents; a brother, Parks Chastain; sisters Geraldine Grubbs, Hildred Darnell, and Charlotte Freeman; and a sister in law, Jeri Lemery. A graveside service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday in Sunset Cemetery, Alton with Pastor Tom Prochaska officiating.
