Harold Daniel "Dan" Snell Obituary

SNELL

Harold Daniel “Dan” Snell, 78, of London, died Friday, July 29, 2022, in the Bluebird Retirement Community, London.

Born August 10, 1943, in London, he was a son of Mildred “Petie” (Greer) and George Harold Snell.

Dan was a man who loved staying busy and who always tried to live life to the fullest. He loved playing and watching nearly all sports and was an avid Ohio State fan. In high school, he was a very skilled left-handed pitcher for London High. In his young adult years, he played and coached hockey, and early in their career coached two members of the 1980 gold medal miracle on ice Olympic dream team. After completing college at General Motors Institute and Central Michigan University, he spent his career as an executive for General Motors. There he served as a mechanical engineer, production manager, director of advanced systems design, and eventually retired as the plant manager of the Delphi plant in Columbus. Dan was a member of First United Methodist Church in London, and played guitar with the Posse Band. He had a strong interest in photography and enjoyed golfing as much as possible in his free time. He loved his animals and would regularly show horses, standard dachshunds, golden retrievers, and his champion Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Dan also was a mounted deputy for the Madison County Sheriff's Department. Above everything else, Dan loved spending time with his family most of all.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Carolyn (Jones) Snell; daughters Bethany Kay Snell and Mary Elizabeth (Keith Rumpz) Snell; grandchildren Elizabeth Ashley Rumpz (fiancée Tim Kawohl) and Daniel Alan Rumpz; sisters Bev (Danny) Eades and Tonya (Jeff) Blain both of London; sister-in-law Doreen Snell of Marysville; many nieces and nephews.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and brother James “Jim” Snell.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, beginning at 1:00 PM in the First United Methodist Church, 52 North Main Street, London, Ohio 43140, with Pastor Dave Leckrone officiating. Interment will follow in Kirkwood Cemetery. Friends may call the church on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials in Dan’s name be sent to either the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org or Sufficient Grace at P.O. Box 92, West Jefferson, Ohio 43162.
