LONGNECKER
Gertrud Longnecker, “Trude,” 94, of London and formerly of Loudonville and Marietta/Newport, Ohio, left our world Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at London Health and Rehab. “Mom” to her children and many of their friends, “Oma” to her grandchildren and many of their friends.
An avid gardener, she could grow anything from a seed or cutting and her home was always surrounded by plants. She called it her own little Eden. She loved animals and always had a pet or two. She took great joy in simple things; a pretty stone or shell, the sunrise, bird songs, spending time with children and collecting nutcrackers. She was creative and her imagination was boundless. She loved to sew, quilt, paint and craft. She enjoyed giving. Anyone that stopped by might get cake and coffee or a plant. She gave candy bars to the mail carrier and drivers of the trash truck.
She was born December 15, 1927, in Bad Soden Am Taunus, Germany where she met and married Clifford Longnecker while he was stationed in nearby Frankfurt during the Korean war. They moved to the USA in 1952 to raise their family. In 1973 she became a naturalized US Citizen and was very proud of this accomplishment.
Proceeded in death by grandson Steven Plice, her parents, her sister and brother, and Cliff Longnecker.
Survivors include her children, Kenneth (Julie) Longnecker, Kathy (David McAtee) Longnecker, Kim (Paul) Swider, Kelly Longnecker, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren. And many nieces and nephews in the US, Germany and Italy.
She loved a good a party; her family will celebrate her life, June 5th. There will be lots of stories told and memories shared. We will show how she lives on through each of us.
Please plant a flower, tree or bush in her memory or donate to a charity of your choice.
We appreciate the care and love given to Trude and her family by the staff of London Health and Rehab and Bella Care Hospice. Thank you to each and everyone of you.
