PENWELL
Alfred Lee “Al” Penwell, Sr., 85, of London, died Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Madison Health.
Born October 14, 1936 in London, he was a son of Branson James and Amy Bell (Huff) Penwell.
Al served in the US Army during the Korean war. He also worked for the City of London, retiring in 1993 after 35 years of service. Al enjoyed woodworking and painting in his free time, in addition to watching Matt Dillon in Gunsmoke.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Fay (Fulk) Penwell; children Alfred Lee Penwell Jr. of London, and Leisa (James) Penwell Oiler of Columbus; grandchildren Zachary Scott Penwell Wright, Ashley Elizabeth Penwell Wright, Cassy Nicole Penwell, Brittney Dawn Oiler, and Brannon James Oiler; sisters Ruth Lickliter Schall and Barbara Nelson; many nieces and nephews.
Al is preceded in death by his parents, son Alfred Eugene Wallace Penwell; brothers William Penwell and James Penwell; sisters Donna Thompson, Elizabeth Stage, Mae Phillips, Betty Boysel, and Ellen Travis.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022, at 1:00 PM in the London Apostolic Gospel Church, 101 Shady Avenue, London, with Pastor Mark Shroeder officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call the church from noon until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials in Al’s name be made to the church.
