SPRIT William Sprit, 92, of London died March 21, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 12, 1922. Bill served in the Navy on the USS Colorado Battleship from 1940-1946 during WWII. He worked as a Stationery Engineer for Westinghouse, Arlington Schools, and Mt. Carmel Hospital where he retired at age 65. After retiring he attended Ohio Dominican College for 10 years and graduated in 1997 at the age of 75 (the second oldest to graduate at that time with a Bachelor's Degree in Theology) which also happened to be the same year as one of his granddaughters graduated from high school. Bill loved all sports. He was a true Buckeye fan, loved the Browns, NASCAR, boxing and baseball. He swam miles and miles at the Hilltop YMCA. His goal was to swim the amount of miles needed to travel to Minnesota and back where his sister lived. Bill was an avid walker, bowler, and loved to play ping pong. He was dedicated to God, his faith, and church. Bill loved to spend hours and hours reading. He cherished his time with his 2 daughters, 4 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Bill will be missed dearly by his daughters Caryl (Bill) Laney, Linda McCarty and Dick Kidder; grandchildren Amber (Frank) LaPoint, James "Jimbo" McCarty, April (Miles) Nixon, B.J. (Emily) Laney; and great-grandchildren Annabel, Preston, Laney, Reese, William, and Jon David. Preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Anabel, Mother, Father, 9 brothers and sisters, son-in-law, and many cherished friends and loved ones. Bill always wanted his life to be celebrated, not grieved, and remembered with joy.
