Obituary

SPAHN William "Bill" Eaton Spahn, 83 years of age, passed away peacefully after a short illness on April 8, 2016 surrounded by his family in London, Ohio. He was born in Freeport, Illinois on March 3, 1933 to parents Oral and Delores Spahn. Bill was a graduate of Freeport High School and member of the 1951 Illinois State High School Basketball Championship team. He attended Beloit College, Beloit, Wisconsin where he played football and was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He served in the United State Army from 1953 to 1955. Professionally Bill was an insurance agent and Executive for American States Insurance, McFarland Insurance Agency of Vincennes, Indiana and Economy/MetLife Insurance in their corporate offices in Lebanon, Indiana. He was a long time resident of Vincennes, Indiana where he raised his family and enjoyed his retirement in Bloomington, Indiana with Patt, his wife of 30 years. Bill was a volunteer in many youth activities as his kids were growing up and spent much of his time as a Troop Leader in the Boy Scouts of America and in the Vincennes Lincoln High School Band and Booster Club. Later in his retired life he volunteered in Bloomington, Indiana for the Boys/Girls Club and never missed an election day as a volunteer on the Monroe County Board of Elections. He is survived by his brother, Robert (Mary) Spahn; cousin, Joyce Spahn; daughter, Bonnie (Doug) Stremming; son, Mitchell (Sheri) Spahn; step son, Christian (KumSon) Karsner; step daughter, Kathryn Murphy; grandchildren: Tyler, Tucker Stremming; Sam, Jack Spahn; Sonja, Jessica, Jason Karsner and nieces and nephew: Anne (Spahn) Summers, Pam (Spahn) Nicolaus, Kevin Spahn and their families. He was proceeded in death by his parents and his wife, Patricia Spahn. The family will receive friends at The Funeral Chapel, 3000 E. Third St., Bloomington, IN. on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 11:00 to 1:00 PM with a Memorial Service to follow at 1:00 PM. Private interment at Valhalla Memory Gardens & Crematorium, Bloomington, IN. Bill enjoyed watching a good basketball game and socializing daily with so many friends as the honorary "Mayor of Panera". He was a true gentleman, who knew no stranger and will be remembered fondly by his family and friends. Memorial donations may be made to: Panera Cares/Feeding America at www.paneracares.org.
