With deep sadness, we share the passing of Sonya Susan Nelson, who died Friday, October 3, 2025, at the age of 64. She as a deeply loving, kind, and genuine person – someone who always looked for the good, even during the hardest times.

Throughout her life, Sonya faced challenges with strength and determination. No matter what she was going through, she chose to focus on the positive. Her optimism wasn't loud, but it was steady – a constant reminder that even in difficult times, there is always something to be thankful for.

She had a gentle presence that made people feel at ease. She listened with her whole heart, loved without conditions, and gave freely of her time and care. Her warmth and honesty made her someone others naturally turned to for support.

One of her greatest pleasures was caring for her plants. Whether it was a windowsill full or a blooming garden, she found peace in watching things grow. Her love for nature reflected the way she lived – patient, thoughtful, and always nurturing.

Sonya is survived by her six children: Lauren (Andrew) Geary, Leanne (Wade) Stanford, Leonard (Danielle) Scher, Lawrence Scher, Christopher Nelson, and Joanna Cain; grandchildren: Malia, Nighajah, Janaya, Wade Jr., Aiden, Rilee, Kinzley, Avery, and Eli; brothers Mark (Candy) Nelson and David (Nina) Nelson, sister Christel (Raymond) Nichols; several nieces and nephews including Mark Nelson Jr., Danielle Colp, Tracy Kinnard, Rachel Gaver, Mo Nichols, Anthony Nelson, Jennifer Veech, Anna Nelson, Mary Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her parents Sesco Nelson and Tophal Kathleen (Fizer) Nelson; former partner and father of her children Alan Scher; brothers Randy Nelson, Tom West, James Fizer, John Nelson, Michael Nelson, and sister Catherine Fizer

A graveside service to honor Sonya's life will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, beginning at 3:00 PM in Somerford Township Cemetery, 830 State Route 56 NW, London, Ohio 43140, with Pastor Jim Blankenship officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes you to plant something in her memory – a small way to keep her spirit alive and growing.
