Obituary

HAWKE (LAIRD)

With deep love and gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Sally (Laird) Hawke, who left this world at the remarkable age of 99.

Born August 6, 1926, in Sedalia, Ohio, Sally witnessed nearly a century of change, yet remained constant in the things that truly mattered: kindness, humility, and an enduring appreciation for the simple pleasures of life. Whether it was a warm cup of tea, the quiet joy of tending to a garden, or the comforting rhythm of a daily routine, she found contentment in the moments many overlook.

For over 30 years, Sally dedicated her working life to the London Water Department, retiring in 1986. Known for her diligence, integrity, and detailed nature, Sally took great pride in public service. It was never about accolades, but about doing the job right, and doing it well – a value that shaped not only a career, but a legacy.

To those who knew Sally, she was a quiet presence with a gentle heart. A person of few words, perhaps, but endless warmth. A good neighbor, a loyal friend, and above all, a loving matriarch.

She will be deeply missed but never forgotten – living on in the stories told, the lives touched, and the small, meaningful ways she made the world a better place.

Sally is survived by her daughter-in-law, Gayle Laird; granddaughter Beth Laird; nieces Kay (Douglas) Markley and Terry Slaughter, nephew Steve (Renee) Wittman; many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Don Laird in 2001 and second husband Bille Hawke in 2017; son Larry D. Laird; grandson Chris Laird; brother Jim Slaughter and sister Jane Gardner.

In honoring Sally's life, we are reminded that a meaningful legacy isn't built on grand gestures, but on quiet consistency, honest work, and a heart open to the everyday beauty of life.

A memorial service will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, beginning at 1:00 PM in the EBERLE-FISHER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 103 North Main Street, London, Ohio 43140, with Pastor Richard Blevins officiating. Interment in Range Township Cemetery will be completed at the convenience of the family.
