SIMKINS Richard "Dick" Simkins, Sr. 88, born April 25, 1926, to Wade and Sarah (Horn) Simkins, passed away April 20, 2015. Dick was a life-long resident of Madison County and raised his family in West Jefferson, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rowena (Self) Simkins; daughters, Barbara Byerly and Laura Martin; brothers, Sam and Tom Simkins; sisters, Virginia Lilly and Sarah Jane Stevenson. He is survived by his son, Richard (DeeDee) Simkins, Jr.; daughters, Rosemary (Ed) Miller and Amy (Rob) Summers; brother, John (Marion) Simkins; sons-in-law, Mark Byerly and Joe Reeves and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, all of whom loved him very much. Dick was a Navy veteran of World War II, on the USS Pandemus and enjoyed sharing his stories of the war. He owned his own fencing business throughout most of his working career. In his younger days he was a fisherman, hunter and all around outdoorsman. Later in life, Dick became an avid reader and a gardener and loved watching old westerns. He was a lifetime member of West Jefferson VFW Post #7005. Dick had a big personality and loved a good joke. He will be greatly missed by all. By his request there will be no immediate service, however the family will plan a memorial service at a later date to celebrate the lives of both Dick and Rowena. Memorial contributions can be made in Dick's name to the American Cancer Society. The family has entrusted arrangements to the EBERLE-FISHER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY.
