CARTER Orville E. "Hoss" Carter, 90, of Sedalia, died at 1:28 AM Monday, June 13, 2016 in Bluebird Retirement Community. Born June 29, 1925 in Sandy Hook, KY; he was a son of Orville and Audrey Carter. Orville was a World War II veteran in the Army, technician fifth grade 278th Combat Engineer Battalion in Europe and was inducted into the Army in the fall of 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946. Survivors include his daughters Joyce Ann Leesburg of Columbus and Jo Lynn and Gary Stewart of St. Charles, IL; grandchildren Corrine Leesburg, Ryan Leesburg, Stephanie Stewart, Daniel Leesburg and Christina Leesburg; five great-grandchildren; brothers Jerry (Ann) Carter of Irwin; Dale (Evelyn) Carter of Bellefontaine, Larry Carter of Georgia, sister Betty Knox of South Carolina and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, wife Mary (Williamson) Carter, son in law Jeffrey Leesburg and brother Burel Carter. Orville never knew a stranger and was known for his sense of humor and great love of pulling pranks. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Friday in the EBERLE-FISHER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 103 North Main Street, London with Mr. John Gordon officiating. Interment will follow in Range Township Cemetery, Sedalia. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 PM on Thursday. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Orville's name to Heartland Hospice, 6500 Busch Blvd #210, Cols, Ohio 43229.
