ECKSTEIN Mavis Eileen Chase Eckstein passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at Bluebird Retirement Community. Born March 30, 1925, in Brown County, Kansas, she was the daughter of Lester M. and Rilla Spiker Chase who predeceased her. She was baptized in the Church of the Brethren, Granada, Kansas. She was a 1942 graduate of Wetmore (KS) Rural High School and a 1943 graduate of Felt and Tarrant Business College. On March 15, 1943, Mavis married Robert J. Eckstein of London, Ohio, where they made their home in 1946 after WWII. They were married until his death on January 23,1998. Mavis was a seventy-three year member of the London First Presbyterian Church where she also served as a deacon and was active in Presbyterian Women and Sunday School. She particularly enjoyed singing in Calvin Choir and Sanctuary Choir and sang with the aid of her fellow choir members for the last time on May 25, 2019. She also created crocheted items to raise funds for the Presbyterian Crusaders Relay for Life team and baked several dozens of cookies each December to share with her many friends and family. Mavis was a faithful volunteer for the Food through Faith food pantry, London Public Library, and Madison Health Foundation. For many years she also volunteered for the American Red Cross. Mavis was an avid reader and golfer and so enjoyed time with her family. Some of her happiest moments were playing golf with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also a member of London Chapter #386 O.E.S. and London Country Club. Mavis is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Connie J. and Thomas J. Dwyer of London, OH, and Cathy J. and Daniel E.
