IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Kathryn
(Wells) Long
June 26, 1944 – April 6, 2025
LONG
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Kathryn Long, 80, of Newport; a beloved wife, cherished mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed at her home on Sunday, April 6, 2025, with her devoted husband of 64 years and loving family by her side.
Born June 26, 1944, in Piketon, Ohio, she was a daughter of Shelva and Agnes (Amlin) Wells.
Mary had been a nursing assistant at Hampton Court in West Jefferson, Ohio for 30 years.
She loved sitting on her back porch watching the birds, butterflies, squirrels and those pesky groundhogs that stole from her vegetable garden. She enjoyed watching her beautiful flower gardens grow. She looked forward to warmer days when she and her husband would take golf cart rides up the lane.
She was a collector of cardinal figurines, which she called "red birds".
She loved filling her home with pictures of her family. No shelf or wall was left bare.
She loved decorating with her husband for the holidays, but Christmas she cherished the most. Everyone in Newport was familiar with her house because of the numerous lights and figures on display.
Mary leaves behind a family that will miss her deeply…
She is survived by her husband Richard "Dick" Long; daughter Annette (Bubba Parsons) Henkle-Parsons, son Richie (Tammy Knief) Long; grandchildren Shannon (Jessica) Long, Jacob (Deanna) Henkle, Jeramy (Jennifer) Long, Justin (Alexandra Chodzin) Long, Justin Knief, Ashley (Justin) Wolverton, BJ (Jamie) Parsons, Eric (Brittany) Parsons; great-grandchildren Archer Long, Jackson and Deacon Henkle, Levi, Emma and new baby (due any day) Long, Hazel Knief, Maverick Findley and Lakelynn Wolverton, Cerstin and RJ Parsons, Parker and Scarlett Parsons; numerous nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Bill Long and her sweet "Kitty" Babe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Leon (Maxine) Wells, Buddy Wells, Raymond (Betty) Wells, a baby sister Garnett Wells; son-in-law John Henkle; one niece, two nephews; in-laws Newt (Hazel) Long, Jim (Kay) Long, Nikki Long, Ray (Alice) Long, Bob (Nancy) Long and Larry Long.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, April 15, 2025, with Pastor Lee Stanley officiating, in Paint Memorial Cemetery, London.
