Obituary

JENKINS Mary Eleanor Lewis Jenkins was born November 27, 1926 on Fifth Street in London, OH to Bruce D. Lewis and Dorothy Helm Lewis. She died on February 8, 2016 at the age of 89. Preceded in death by both parents; sister Linda Anne Lewis Smart and husband Frank Fredrich Jenkins to whom she was married for 64 years. She is survived by children Barry (Stephanie Patrick) Jenkins of Arlington, VA, Janet J. Johnson of Plain City and Lynda (Lester Barnhart) Heyl of London; grandchildren Brian (Cindy Cryder) Barnhart of St. Louis, MO, Laura Barnhart of Indianapolis, IN, Patrick Jenkins of Winston-Salem, NC and Corinne (Xandon) Johnson of London; four great-grandchildren Marlaine Johnson, Daphne Barnhart, Linus Johnson and Clara Barnhart, plus numerous nephews. Mary was a 1944 graduate of London High School, a very close-knit class that has kept in touch through the years. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University. Mary worked at the London Board of Public Utilities for 30 years, retiring in 1987 and was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church. Mary had many hobbies and activities that interested her including genealogy, knitting, quilting, reading, gardening, collecting Inuit art and watching sports on TV. She especially enjoyed PBR (bull riding), baseball (The Reds), football (OSU) and hockey (Blue Jackets). She was a true Buckeye fan. With a love to travel, she toured many places in the United States and also visited many foreign countries including Austria, Belgium, Bhutan, Canada (Northwest Territory, Yukon, Maritimes, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia), Czechoslovakia, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany. Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxemburg, Nepal, The Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Ukraine and Wales. Her favorite place to travel was above the Arctic Circle in Canada. She traveled to all corners of the world, but always came home to London, OH, where her heart lived and her legacy remains. A memorial service will be held at 4 PM Friday in the EBERLE-FISHER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 103 N. Main Street, London with Father Frank Edmands officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 PM Friday.
