Mary Esther "Meg"
(Grimes) Morehart
April 28, 1946 – June 11, 2026
MOREHART
Mary Esther “Meg” (Grimes) Morehart, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 11, 2026. She is the beloved wife of Paul Morehart, mother of Hannah and Nathan, and grandmother to Evan Morehart.
Meg was born on April 28th, 1946, in Covington, Kentucky. She was the first-born child of Mary Lou and Stanley Grimes who preceded her in death. Meg was also preceded in death by a twin brother, James, who died at birth, and a younger brother, Stanley James who passed away in 1993. She has one surviving brother, Alexander Phelps, and his wife Carroll from Lanai City, Hawaii.
Meg is survived by her loving and dedicated husband, Paul Morehart, daughter Hannah Morehart, son Nathan Morehart, daughter-in-law Beth Stokes, and grandchildren Evan Morehart, Nathan Stokes, and Ashley Stokes; multiple great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving niece, Lainey Betts (Dietz) and her husband Derek, who helped the family care for Meg in her later years. Also, special friend and sister-in-law Karen Grimes Hughes and long-time friend Carol Ann Heuerman, both of Cincinnati, Ohio. Meg is also survived by many nieces and nephews in the Grimes, Casson, Phelps, Dietz, Cathel, Fletcher, and Streitenberger families. They will all dearly miss Aunt Meg.
Meg attended Western Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati in Education and from Wright State with a Master’s Degree in Education. She taught for three years in the Forrest Hills Public Schools in Cincinnati before moving to the Madison Plains Local School District in London, Ohio where she retired in 2003 after 30+ years of teaching. She was dedicated to education, the Madison Plains Community, and to her students. She had many friends and enjoyed the company of her fellow teachers in the Madison Plains district.
Meg met her husband, Paul, in 1968 at Dater Jr. High School in Cincinnati where she was completing her student teaching. She fancied his “pretty blue convertible” and asked him for a ride. The rest is history. They were married on September 4th, 1970, and in 1971 moved back to Paul’s hometown of Mt. Sterling, Ohio where they raised their family, had many friends and family nearby, were part of a loving community, and completed their teaching careers at Madison Plains.
Meg loved to travel and, being a Social Studies teacher, wanted to see every big city and every state in the United States. Over a ten-year period, she accomplished that dream with her husband, her kids, and her friends. She was equally comfortable on horseback in the western mountains as she was on the streets of New York, Boston, Seattle, or New Orleans. Her last big trip was with her husband and grandson, Evan, in 2018, to show him some of the most beautiful sights of the west.
Meg’s wish was to be cremated with no visitation or formal burial. She had several specific places where she wished her cremains to be scattered by the family, which will happen at a later point in time. There is also a headstone in the Morehart plot at Pleasant Cemetery, where some cremains will be placed.
Meg will be greatly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all the Morehart family, neighbors, friends, and in the hearts of many Junior High school kids who loved Mrs. Morehart.
The Morehart family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the dedicated team of the Madison House at the Madison Senior Living Community and to Affinity Care Hospice for the compassionate care they gave our beloved Meg.
If anyone wishes to contribute in Meg’s honor, the family suggests the Madison Plains Scholarship Foundation through the Columbus Foundation’s Giving Store online at https://columbusfdn.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/fund?funit_id=4192.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the EBERLE-FISHER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 103 North Main Street, London, Ohio 43140, where condolences for the family are encouraged to be shared online at www.eberlefisherfuneralhome.com.
