SAUPE
Margaret A. Gordon Saupe-Nisbet (“Peg”) of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, with son and daughter at her bedside.
Peg grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, attended Earlham College, then met and married Walter in Dayton Ohio. Walt the engineer became Walt the pastor of First Lutheran Church in Dayton, Ohio, and Peg became a pastor’s wife. She also worked for many years as a medical technologist at Kettering Hospital. When Walt was called to St. John’s Lutheran Church in London, Ohio, Peg went to work at Madison County Hospital and eventually became a forensic scientist at Ohio BCI. She remained an active member of St. John’s for many years after Walt passed away in 1988.
Several years later, during a visit to her brother Bob and his fiancé Sue, Mom met and fell in love with Sue’s brother Steve. They were soon married and enjoyed a full life of travel and adventures until Steve passed away in 2019.
Last October, Peg moved to Clark Retirement Community in Grand Rapids, Michigan to be near daughter Karen. She eagerly joined Church of the Servant, appreciating the music and new friendships there and at Clark. Peg enjoyed a 90th birthday celebration the weekend of April 20 with extended family visiting.
Longtime friends and family will remember Peg as industrious, quick-witted, efficient, and able to walk and work more quickly than most humans. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, good jokes, travels across the country and around the world, showing hospitality to others, and hearing good music—especially when performed by family members.
She is survived by daughter Karen, son Eric (Derek Bushey), step-children Brooke and Daniel Nisbet, sister Carol Suddath (James), grandchildren Caitlin and Kristin, and several nieces and nephews: Mike (Sheryl Goodman) Gordon, Doug (Beth) Gordon, Andy (Tina) Gordon, Laura (Reeghan) Raffals, Megan Mansfield, and David (Anna) Harrrell. She was preceded in death by husbands Walter Saupe and Steve Nisbet, brother Bob Gordon, and sister Nancy Harrell.
A Celebration of Peg’s life will be held Saturday, June 27, 2026, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 380 Keny Blvd, London, Ohio 43140, with Vicar John Meister officiating. Visitation 2 P.M., service 3 P.M., with meal to follow. Private interment in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, New Carlisle, will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the organ fund at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 8630 Refugee Road, Pickerington, Ohio 43147, where son Eric is organist.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the EBERLE-FISHER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 103 North Main Street, London, Ohio 43140, where condolences for the family may be shared online at www.eberlefisherfuneralhome.com.
