Obituary

SCOTT Mabel E. "Betty" Scott, 81, of London, died at 12:40AM Tuesday, July 2, 2013 in the Arbors West Nursing Home in West Jefferson. Born January 23, 1932 in Frankfort, Ohio, she was a daughter of William George and Mary Lou (Duling) Henderson. Betty was a lifetime member of the St. Paul A.M.E. church in London where she was a trustee and a former member of the church choir. A member of the Steward and Stewardess Boards of the church, she had served as Superintendant of the Sunday School, President of the Vivian Lowery Sinkford missionary society, Vice President of the Lay Organization, and she was Past Chaplain of the Ohio Conference Lay Organization. She was a member of the Madison County Democratic Party and the Habitat for Humanity, and she was a Past Grand Marshall of the London Strawberry Festival. A 1976 graduate of London High School, Betty served for 12 years on the London City Council. She was employed for 20 years at the London K Mart from where she retired in 2010. She is survived by 8 loving children: Mary Lou (Nick) Gambino of Miamisburg, OH, Michael Scott of Marina Del Rey, CA, Kenneth Scott of Columbus, Herman Scott of Columbus, Deborah Scott of London, Madge Cameron of Columbus, Anne (Jimho) Scott-Ikharo of Columbus, and Martin Scott (Dennis Bush) of Phoenix, AZ. Also surviving her are 18 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; a host of nieces and nephews; and her "adopted sister," Joyce Payne of London. Her husband, Manuel Scott, preceded her in death. Her parents and 4 siblings John Henderson, Sr., Aretha Henderson, Joseph W. Henderson, and Nellie A. Henderson also preceded her in death. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00AM Tuesday in the St. Paul AME Church in London with Rev. Melvyn Huguely and Rev. Sandie Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, London. Friends may call at the EBERLE-FISHER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY from 4 to 7 PM Monday. If they wish, friends may make memorial donations to the St. Paul AME Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
