RIPLEY

Lowell E. “Doc” Ripley, 93, of London, died Friday, October 9, 2026, in Mount Carmel, Grove City, following a brief illness.

Born May 11, 1933, in Kent, Ohio; Doc was a son of Fern Lucile (Atwood) and Elton Carey Ripley.

Left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 23 years, Diane (Stewart) Smith Ripley; children: Noreen (John) Anderson, Scott (Peggy) Ripley, and Shelby (Jeremy) Corder; grandchildren: Jake Anderson, Ben (Lauren) Anderson, Taylor Ripley, and Seth (Alexa) Ripley; great-grandchildren: Harper and Everett Anderson, Leon and Reese Ripley; numerous nieces and nephews.

Doc was preceded in death by his parents and his eight siblings.

A proud alumnus of The Ohio State University, Doc earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 1954. Following his graduation, he dedicated his career to the compassionate care of animals at the Ripley Animal Clinic in Grandview, Ohio, where he lived out his passion until his retirement in April of 2006.

Beyond his professional calling, Doc was deeply invested in his community as an active member of the Mercator Club of Columbus. His leadership and extraordinary service were recognized by his peers, who names him Man of the Year four times and elected him to serve three terms as Club President.

Doc enjoyed embracing life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid golfer who spent many peaceful hours on the green, was a keen spectator of horse racing, and a sharp euchre player who always enjoyed a friendly game around the table with family and friends.

Doc’s warmth, dedication to others, and his unmatched spirit of service will continue to leave a lasting impact on the communities he so deeply loved, and all those who he encountered.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in Big Plain Cemetery.

Memorials in Doc’s name may be sent to benefit the Columbus Foundation online at https://www.columbusfoundation.org/.
