Obituary

WEIMER Loretta Jean Cassidy Weimer, 99, passed away on February 19, 2019 at Bluebird Retirement Community in London, Ohio, after suffering a stroke. Born December 4, 1919 in Los Angeles, California, she spent her formative years in New York City, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Queens College. Just before World War II began, she received her private pilot's license. A strong believer in service to her country, she immediately enlisted in the United States Navy on October 6, 1942, and completed Officer Training School. Her first assignment was to Hawaii as a Communications Officer, tracking all ship movements in the Pacific. While on a bus to town, she met a hot shot pilot, Max Weimer, from London, Ohio, and the rest is history. As the war was ending, both were discharged to their respective hometowns. That wouldn't do so they got married on the Navy base in Hilo, Hawaii. She went with Max to London, where she taught school in Plumwood and Madison South. She then worked for Madison County Job & Family Services, working in children's services until her retirement in 1979. She was an avid supporter of her community as an active member of Phi Beta Psi Sorority, 20th Century Club, Coover Society, Happy Hour Needle Club, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, and First United Methodist Church as a member of the Las Jovenes Sunday School class. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Nancy (Trehearne) of West Jefferson, Ohio, and John and Lisa (Hellerman) of London; and five grandchildren, Cynthia Sue Peterman (Doug), Scott (Jennifer Molinet), both of London, Christy Annette Verziera (Christian) of Groton, Connecticut, Elena Rose Zimmerman (Matt) of Mishawaka, Indiana, and Max Christian of London. She also is survived by eight great grandchildren, Taylor Renee Peterman, Ryan Peterman, Mason Weimer, Morgan Emily Weimer, Anna Zimmerman, Johnny Zimmerman, David Zimmerman, and Sofia Elizabeth Verziera; sister-in-law Dorothy Weimer; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Maxwell Weimer, infant daughter Susan Weimer, mother and father Francis Jean and Joseph Leo Cassidy, brother Joseph Cassidy, and sister Joan Cassidy.
