Joseph "Joe" Henry Chestnut, 96, of Sedalia, died Tuesday, January 24, 2023, in Grove City surrounded by his loving family.
Born January 27, 1926, in Lucasville, he was a son of Daniel Chestnut and Lexia Pearl (Newman) Crabtree.
Joe was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in both World War II and the Korean War. After his time in the service, he went onto work as a radio announcer. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always enjoyed telling jokes. He then worked for the Dial Corporation where he later retired from. Joe was a man of strong faith, and was a long time member of the Sedalia Church of Christ in Christian Union. He was also a member of the V.F.W Post 11208 in Harrisburg. Joe was able to participate in Honor Flight, and he enjoyed spending time with his military comrades. In his spare time, he also enjoyed playing guitar, gardening, and especially tending to his fruit trees which were shared with his neighbors.
He leaves behind his son Mark Edward (Bethany) Chestnut of Grove City; grandsons Mark A. Chestnut and Scott B. (Carolyne) Chestnut, both of Grove City; great-grandchildren Luke, Gracelyn, Clayton, Ava; siblings Gladys Loraine Storts, Ruth Shirk, Elza "Max" (Cynthia) Crabtree; many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law Jennie McNeal and Lyvonia Boggs; numerous friends, neighbors, and military brothers.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife of 50 years Lydia Marie (Amos) Chestnut.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 30, 2023, beginning at 1:00 PM in the Sedalia Church of Christ in Christian Union, 60 South Street, Sedalia, Ohio 43151 with Reverend Gordon Ell officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Range Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of services.
