PRESTON
John William Preston, age 73, resident of London, Ohio, formerly from Kermit, West Virginia, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2026. Born on July 10, 1952, in Paintsville, Kentucky, he was the son of Conrad Preston and Mary (Wells) Preston.
Left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, LaDonna Kay (Parsley) Preston; son John (Sheri) Preston II and daughter Amber (Michael) Armbruster; grandchildren Riley Preston, Caleb Armbruster, and Colby Armbruster; Two step-sons and seven step-grandsons; sisters: Dorothy Preston, Mary Barnett, and Debra Brant; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; and sister-in-law Betty Sue Brewer.
John was preceded in death by his parents Conrad and Mary, as well as his sisters Florene Maynard, Connie Anderson, and Rachel Marcum.
John spent many years working as an electrician in the coal mines of West Virginia. He also honorably served his country as part of the National Guard, and he was a distinguished Eagle Scout.
He was a man who could do just about anything and considered a jack-of-all-trades. Whether it was woodworking (including building his own deck), mechanical work, home projects, or even building computers, there was never a challenge he was unwilling to take on. He loved sharing this gift and helping others.
In addition to his hard-working spirit, John was known for his sense of humor. He loved making people laugh and was always sharing and telling jokes. He was a lifelong Kentucky Wildcats basketball fan and enjoyed cheering them on and rarely missed a game. He also loved fishing and returning home to West Virginia where he could be found floating down the Tug River.
More than anything, John loved his family. They were the center of his world, and he was happiest when surrounded by them.
John will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, sense of humor, generous heart, and above all else, the love and kindness he showed to family and friends alike.
Graveside services and interment will be held in Dempsey Cemetery in Warfield, Kentucky at the convenience of the family.
