POWERS John T. Powers, 81, of London, died Saturday, March 17, 2018 in Madison Health. Born September 19, 1936 in Madison County; he was a son of Frank Eldon and Arwilda (Hodge) Powers. John retired from the US Army as a First Sergeant and has served his country during the Vietnam War, where he earned two bronze stars, a purple heart and seven Army commendations. After his military career, he had then worked for the Department of Corrections, first in Ohio, then in Arizona, retiring in 1998. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Gladys (Gordon) Powers, children Ty Ann (Frank) Gerbracht, John (Diane) Powers, Scot (Angela) Powers and Jason (Natasha) Powers; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Paul "Jay" Powers and Robert "Bob" Powers. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, March 23, 2018 in Dayton National VA Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed. A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held at 4:30 PM Friday in the Union Township Hall, London.
