HIGHFILL John L. Highfill, 71, of London died Friday, June 23, 2017 in his residence. Born January 19, 1946 in Columbus; he was a son of Mary Jane (Barr) and Charles Highfill. He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Nettie Marie (Shuff) Highfill; brothers and their wives Bill, Fabian and he was especially close to Clarence, Paul and Jimmy. Also surviving are several cousins, nieces, nephews including Julie Asbury and James Shuff and their families, whom he helped raise and sisters in law Margie Highfill and Linda Knight (Gary Thompson), whom he was very fond of. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Charles "Sunny". John retired from General Motors and owned and operated John's Small Engine Repair and was known as "The Lawnmower Man". A friend to all, especially his neighbors of the Lake Choctaw Community; John will be remembered as a person who was loving, caring and was also an avid animal lover and rescuer. A memorial service for John will be held at 6 PM Wednesday in the EBERLE-FISHER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 103 N. Main St, London. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-6 PM. A reception for family and friends will follow at Andrea's B & B, 117 N. Main St, London. The family suggests memorials in John's name be sent to the Madison Co.
