ROBERTS Joe Roberts, 89, of London died Monday, April 15, 2019 in his residence. Born December 11, 1929 in Madison County; he was a son of Chester Pearl and Hilda Grace (Loveless) Roberts. Joe was a life long farmer, had served in the Ohio National Guard for nine years and was a charter member of the Central Township Fire Department at Newport, serving as Assistant Fire Chief from 1966-1986 and as Fire Chief from 1986-1999. Joe was also a member of the Newport United Methodist Church, the Gold Wing Road Riders Association and had ridden a motorcycle for over 82 years. Traveling was a passion of Joe's, having seen most of the United States; he also loved being a private pilot in the family's plane. He is survived by his wife Marie Nibert, sister Mary Anne Dawson of Tallahassee, FL; several nieces and nephews; two step daughters and three step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Margaret, brothers Deane L. and Neal H. Roberts and sister Phyllis Jane Roberts Raub. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday in the Newport United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeff Smalley officiating. Interment will follow in Paint Memorial Cemetery, London.
