It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jim C. “Bud” Baugess, 85, of London. Jim went home to be with his Lord on Friday, June 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
A son of Clora M. (Pratt) and Curtis B. Baugess, Jim was born on April 26, 1941, in Waverly, Ohio. Jim married Sharon L. (Price) on July 14, 1961, whom he built a beautiful life with until her passing in 1989. He was blessed to find love a second time and married JoAnn (Taylor) on January 18, 1997, and together they spent a 29-year chapter of companionship filled with deep love. Jim cherished every moment spent surrounded by his family, creating a legacy of warmth and laughter, and especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren who affectionately bestowed him with the name “Pop Pop.”
He could always be found working with his hands and was an exceptional woodworker. A master of his trade, Jim dedicated over 35 years of hard work and loyalty to Capital Manufacturing. His passion for building extended throughout his entire life as a custom home builder, leaving a lasting mark primarily on the landscape of Grove City, where he built beautiful homes for families for decades.
Jim was a dedicated member of the London Church of the Nazarene where he didn’t just practice faith – he lived it. Over the years he gave countless hours of service to his church community. Combining his deep faith with his passion for building, he traveled the world on numerous mission trips. From local builds, including numerous storefronts in downtown London, to global projects, he used his unique skills to build structures, restore communities, and benefit countless people in need.
Jim also had a lifelong passion for classic cars. A true enthusiast, he owned several vintage vehicles over the years, taking immense pride in personally restoring them to their former glory. For Jim, a garage full of tools and a project in front of him was truly time well spent.
Survivors include his beloved wife JoAnn (Taylor) Baugess; children: James S. Baugess, Timothy C. (Lori) Baugess and Kimberly M. (Andy Shimp) Baugess; grandchildren: Brandon Gaunt, Brittnie Blackmon, Heather Baugess, Dylan Baugess, Alexis Sollars, A.J. Shimp, Aidan Shimp, and Julia Shimp; two great-grandchildren; step-children Michelle (Gary) Mayle and Brian (Lori) Osborn; step-grandchildren: Jordan (Kelsey) Mayle, Tyler Mayle, Sierra (Cole) Meinke, Savannah (Aaron) Harper, and Joseph Osborn. He will also be lovingly remembered by his siblings: Elmer (Anita) Baugess, Kenneth (Mary) Baugess, Dan (Jane) Baugess, and Deborah (David) Stephens, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Clora and Curtis, loving first wife Sharon L. Baugess, sisters Norma Williams, and Joyce Jordan.
The Baugess family wishes to extend a deeply heartfelt thank you to Joel Rice, Dr. Ewa Mrozek, and the extraordinary staff at the Madison Health Cancer Center. Their compassionate and dedicated care over the past few years brought immense comfort and support to both Jim and his family during his journey.
