Janet Lynn (Newsome) Smith, age 56, of Columbus, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 5, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on October 23, 1969, in Greenville, South Carolina to Mary Carolina (Flood) Craig, she was known by all who knew her as a truly lovable and down-to-earth person. She found her greatest joys in life’s simpler pleasures. Whether she was out riding horses, spending a quiet afternoon fishing, admiring the beauty of flowers, or cooking her favorite meal to share, she embraced her passions with a genuine heart.

Janet is survived by her daughter Mary Lee (Sean) Grover and son Jacob Allen (Meagan) Grover-Pollard; grandchildren: Maddiline, R.J., Gabriel, Braiden, Tavin, and Taylyn Grover; several siblings including Michael, Sam, David, Jackie, and Doug Newsome; numerous nieces and nephews including nephew Ryan Newsome.

She was preceded in death by her mother Mary and brother Ricky Flood.

Cremation will take place in accordance with Janet’s wishes. Public services will not be observed.
