CONLEY

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Clayton Conley, age 90, of London, who passed peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2026, in the Bluebird Retirement Community.

Born on May 9, 1936, in Salyersville, Kentucky, James was a son of Ottis Conley and Necie (Whitt) Conley. He proudly served his country as a United States Army veteran serving in West Germany during the Cold War. Following his military service, James dedicated over 35 years to shaping young minds as the Industrial Arts teacher at Springfield Shawnee High School. Known for his patience and skill, he left a lasting legacy in the hearts (and woodworking projects) of generations of students.

Outside the classroom, James was a man of many passions. He was an avid gardener who loved working with his hands, a master woodworker, and a passionate sports fan. He could always be found cheering for the Kentucky Wildcats basketball and Cincinnati Reds baseball teams.

Left to cherish his memory include his son Reggie B. (Karen) Conley of Galloway, daughter Lori (Eric) Young of Marietta; grandchildren Clayton Conley, Aaron Conley, Caroline Conley, Bailey Young, Lucas Young, Samuel Young, and Devyn Schmidt; sisters Zelma Wheeler and Judy Borders; numerous nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents Ottis and Necie; wife Virginia (Bailey) Conley; daughter Kimberley Conley; brothers Elvin Conley, Buford Conley, and Glen Conley and three sisters, Wilma Colvin, Darlene Conley and Debra Conley.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 12:00 Noon – 2:00 PM in the EBERLE-FISHER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 103 North Main Street, London, Ohio 43140. Funeral services will commence at 2:00 PM and interment will follow in Kirkwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in James’ name may be sent to benefit either ViaQuest Hospice, 525 Metro Place North Suite 300, Dublin, Ohio 43017, or to the Bluebird Retirement Community, 2260 State Route 56 SW, London, Ohio 43140.
