MARKLEY Herbert C. Markley, 94, of London passed on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at The Madison Senior Living Community in London surrounded by his loving family. Born September 21, 1923 in Catawba, Ohio; he was a son of Herbert and Lina (McWhirt) Markley. Herb graduated from London High School in 1941 and attended Cedarville College on the GI Bill. Herb proudly served Madison County as Sheriff from 1956-1980 and then as county commissioner from 1981-2001. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and served aboard the battleship USS Texas; he was also a member of the American Legion, London Lions Club and Chandler Lodge #138 F & AM. Survivors include his sons William H. Markley of Canal Winchester and Matthew (Karen) Markley of Fort Pierce, Florida; grandchildren Andrea (David) Dillion, Kristin (Rob) Sollars of London, Liz (Greg) Finchum of South Charleston, Nick (Jessica) Markley of Delaware, OH, Amanda (Eduardo) Gonzalez of London, Dillon (Jenn) Markley of Chillicothe and Grant (fiancee' Megan) Markley of Columbus; great grandchildren Caitlyn Biller, Julie Sollars, Samantha Ashmore, Caleb Sollars, Kylee Scott, Emma Scott, Noah Sollars, Olivia Scott, Rosalinda Gonzalez, Cameron and Cora Markley, Sophia Gonzalez, Gabriella and Peyton Markley; brother Eldon "Perk" Markley; sister Georgia Compton; son-in-law Doug Daniels; step-sons Billy (Devonee) Hackett, Bobby (Sue) Hackett, Jimmy (Kathy) Hackett and Kevin (Betsy) Hackett and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Helen "Bambi" Markley; his former wife and the mother of his children, Norma Markley; children Julie Markley Daniels and Andrew Markley; sisters Jane DeVore, Edna Nance, Betty Eades and Evelyn Jackson. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 AM Tuesday, September 4, 2018 in St. Simon and Jude Church, 9350 High Free Pike, West Jefferson, with Fr. William A. Metzger officiating. Interment will follow in Somerford Township Cemetery, London. Friends may call at the church from 2-7 PM Monday, with a vigil service beginning at 7 PM.
