MEADE Helen G. Meade, 98, of London, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Madison Senior Living. Helen was born September 14, 1917 in Ashland, Kentucky to John T. and Snowy (Artis) Griffith. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1935. She married Richard H. Meade and he served in the Navy until World War II was over. They settled in London, Ohio and in 1950 they established Meade Tire Sales. She worked there as secretary and treasurer of the corporation until their retirement in 1977, when their son Richard R. Meade took over the business. Helen was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of London, serving on the board of Deacons for several years. Her past activities in the community included: President of the United Presbyterian Women, director of Westminster Youth Choir, Sunday school teacher and the adult church choir. Helen was on the Board of Trustees of the London Public Library and the Madison County Tuberculosis Association. She had served as president of the Twentieth Century Club, the former Women's Club of London, the Delphian Society, the Married Ladies Thimble Club and she was a charter member of both the Coover Society and the Madison County Auxiliary. She was an active volunteer in the Pharmacy Department of Madison County Hospital until 2008. In 2014, she was chosen as an honorary member of the Madison County Auxiliary. Helen loved music and was gifted with musical ability and a beautiful singing voice. She enjoyed playing the piano, organ and accordion. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Richard H. Meade, her parents John and Snowy Griffith, her sister Lelia Nolte and brother in law William "Bill" Nolte. Her survivors include her son and daughter in law Richard and Carol Meade, grandchildren James Meade, Scott (Suzanne) Meade and Lisa Guthrie; great-grandchildren Timothy (Morgan) Meade, Michael Meade, Jordan Guthrie, Sven Meade, Hannah Guthrie, Sydney Meade and great-great granddaughter Olivia Rutherford Guthrie, niece Cindy (Bob) Holt and nephews John (Suzanne) Nolte and Charles (Debbie) Meade. Helen willed her body to the Ohio University School of Osteopathic Medicine Body Donor Program. A memorial service will be held at a later date this summer at the First Presbyterian Church.
