Obituary

WHITE

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Harrie White IV, age 81 of London, Ohio who left us peacefully on July 13, 2026.

Harrie was a man of quiet strength who took immense pride in serving his country, found joy in pursuing his many hobbies, and above all, cherished the adventures and memories he shared with his beloved bride, Sandy.

Born on May 25, 1945, in Petersburg, Virginia, he was the eldest son of the late Harrie White Jr. and Anna Lou (Talbott) White. Harrie was a proud graduate of Mount Vernon High School in Virginia. Shortly after graduation, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy.

His military service was a source of immense lifelong pride. As a skilled aircraft mechanic, Harrie served aboard both the USS Wasp and the USS Intrepid aircraft carriers. During his time at sea, he played a firsthand role in American history by assisting in the recovery missions for four Gemini space capsules – a memory and achievement he cherished deeply.

Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Harrie began a successful career in the telecommunications industry. He started as a telephone installer with C&P Telephone in Virginia. Through decades of dedication and industry changes, he continued his career as an instructor with Western Electric and AT&T before retiring from Lucent Technologies after 33 years of loyal service.

Outside of work, Harrie enjoyed many interesting hobbies. In 2008, he discovered a love for geocaching. Alongside Sandy, the duo became staples of the local geocaching community, known affectionately by their team handle, “HARSAN”. Together, they enjoyed countless adventures exploring new places and making lasting friendships.

Harrie also found peace and happiness in the outdoors. Whether relaxing at his mother's cabin in the mountains of Hayesville, North Carolina, or vacationing at his favorite destination on Dale Hollow Lake, some of his most treasured moments were spent fishing and boating.

Additionally, Harrie was an active and involved member of the Madison County Amateur Radio Club. Under the call sign N8HXW, he spent countless hours connecting with fellow operators over the airwaves as a general licensed ham radio operator.

Most of all, Harrie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend whose kindness, loyalty, and love for his family will be remembered always.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 47 years, Sandra Lynn (Miller) White; his children, Jim (Janie Shepherd) Carter, Tammy (Sean) Hogan, Mindy (Craig Bogart) White, and bonus son Brian (Amy) West; his grandchildren: James Cooke, Kasey (Christopher) Schultz, Nick (Sierra) Carter, Valerie Cooke, and Jake Hogan; his great-grandchildren: Roselyn Schultz, Makenna Carter, Carter Schultz, and soon to be born, Jameson Carter; his brother Tom White; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

In addition to his parents, Harrie was preceded in death by his brother, Richard White, as well as several beloved aunts and uncles.

Harrie's legacy of service, dedication, adventure, and unwavering love for his family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 18th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Cypress Church Alton Darby Campus, 377 Alton Darby Creek Road, Galloway, Ohio 43119. Funeral services will commence at 1:00 pm with Pastor Jody Pickett officiating. Private interment at Union Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. In honor of Harrie, please feel free to wear a Hawaiian shirt or Geocaching or MCARC shirts to the visitation/service.
