Harold Edward “Ed” Walters, 87, passed peacefully on Thursday August 13, 2026, in his home surrounded by his family.

Ed was born on November 28, 1938, in Fayette County, Ohio, the youngest child of Clarence E. Walters and Theressa Plum. Ed graduated from Madison South High School in 1957.

Ed married Patricia “Patty” Ann Mouser, the girl who caught his attention at a movie by throwing popcorn at his back and was still by his side after 69 years of marriage.

Ed served as an Airman First Class in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Massachusetts and Bitburg, West Germany with the 36th Air Police Squadron. Upon his return to London, he continued working as a lineman for Ohio Edison from which he retired after 37 years.

But Ed’s true love was a race horse. He was a harness race horse trainer, owner and driver who spent more hours and days than the family want to remember at the horse barns or Scioto Downs or Lebanon. Ed was a quiet man who found joy sitting behind a horse, a peppermint in his pocket, a pipe between his teeth, the reins in his hands, and the oval track stretched out ahead.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents Clarence Walters (1898-1954) and Theressa Plum (1902-2003), his three brothers Weldon E. Walters (1923-2000), Clarence Eugene Walters (1929-2008), Raymond Wilson Walters (1936-1992); and two sisters Juanita Walters Campbell (1926-1998) and Dorothy “Dottie” Ann Walters Vugtaveen (1932-2014); his in-laws Charles Nelson Mouser (1913-1988) and Annabelle Boysel (1918-2010); two brothers-in-law Paul Mouser (1934-2013) and Max Eugene Mouser (1941-2009); and sister-in-law Connie Sue Mouser Hileman (1942-2017).

Ed is survived by his wife Patty Mouser Walters, son Leslie Allen Walters (Martina Miller) of London, and daughter Lisa Ann Walters Harmon (Richard) of Sabina; grandson Devan Harmon (Jade Bentley) of Sabina, granddaughters Meghan Harmon Kosier (Mitchell) of Findlay, and Mackenzie Walters of St Paul, MN; and great grandchildren Corbin Harmon, Emmett Harmon, Maverick Kosier, Myla Kosier and Caydence Pinkerton.

In accordance with family wishes there will be no formal service or visitation at this time.
