Obituary

HUNTER

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Garnett Hunter, Jr., in his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. Born on December 3, 1930, in Range Township, Ohio, Garnett was a cherished son of Garnett Hunter, Sr. and Carolina (Haenszel) Hunter.

After graduating from London High School, Garnett went on to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. A lifelong farmer, Garnett found solace and strength working on his land where he remodeled their home to share with his beloved wife Valda (Burkitt) Hunter. Strong in his faith, Garnett was a longtime member of the Newport Global Methodist Church where he enjoyed worshiping and spending time with his church family. Always a man of impeccable integrity, he also proudly served as a Trustee for Union Township where he devoted over 40 years of service to the land and people he loved most.

Garnett leaves behind a rich legacy of love through his adoring wife of almost 75 years, Valda Hunter; sons: Jeffrey Allen Hunter, Gregory Alden (Jennifer) Hunter, Bradley Andrew (Jenny) Hunter, and Wesley Luther (Sheila) Hunter; grandchildren: Sean Hunter, Christina Hunter, Allison (James) Webb, Hannah Henry, Alicia (Travis) Cassady, Andrew (Jessica) Burns; great-grandchildren: Ashtyn Webb, T.J. Cassady, Ava Cassady, Olivia Burns, Owen Burns; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Garnett was preceded in death by his brothers Kermit, Rodney, and Virgil Hunter, and sister Marcelene Slyh.

The Hunter family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the Newport Global Methodist Church, 80 Center Street SE, London, Ohio 43140. A funeral service will then be celebrated at 1:00 PM with Pastors Kevin Slyh and David Slyh officiating. Interment will follow in Paint Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Garnett's name may be sent to benefit the Newport Global Methodist Church via P.O. Box 701, London, Ohio 43140.
