SMITH

Cynthia L. Smith, age 85, of New York, NY, passed away on June 26, 2021.

She was born in DeGraff, OH, on June 15, 1936, to the late Kelsey and Jane (Creath) Smith and grew up in London, OH.

A graduate of Urbana High School, she earned her BA in Education degree from Capital University and Masters in Library Science from Columbia University. Cynthia taught several years in Springfield, OH, before becoming a permanent resident of New York. She was employed by the New York Public Library, retiring as a Supervising Librarian in charge of six branches. She was a member of a number of Community and Planning Boards for these districts. Cynthia was a supporter and lover of the arts of New York, attending the opera, ballet, and orchestra concerts.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Karen and Keith Williamson, Springfield, OH; two nieces and their husbands Elizabeth and James Helwagen, Springfield, OH, and Jane and Scott Kozlowski, Westerville, OH; and a great-niece, Sarah Durham and her fiancé Quinton Woodmansee of Hilliard, OH; and several cousins in Ohio, Kentucky, and Florida.

A funeral service will be held in the Eberle-Fisher Funeral Home and Crematory, 103 North Main Street, London on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Kirkwood Cemetery. Friends may call the funeral home from 12:00 PM until the time of services.

Donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice or to the Capital University Music Conservatory.
