Obituary

Cecil Eugene Herman

May 10, 1946 – August 24, 2025

Cecil Eugene Herman, 79, of London, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on August 24, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born on May 10, 1946, in Beaver, Ohio, Cecil spent nearly his entire life in London, where he was a well-loved member of the community. He worked for the City of London for 40 years, dedicating his life to service and hard work.

He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in London and, in recent years, attended Lighthouse Tabernacle in Urbana with his wife, Carrie, where he met many new and cherished friends.

Cecil had a deep love for southern Ohio and enjoyed returning to "the hills" whenever he could. He also loved visiting Amish Country, exploring flea markets and craft fairs, and attending southern gospel concerts and singings. An avid woodworker, he spent countless hours in his workshop, where he was always tinkering with something. Known as a great neighbor and a helping hand, Cecil was someone you could always count on.

Above all else, Cecil was a devoted father to his son Tom Herman and a proud grandfather to his grandson, Thomas Herman Jr. Cecil cherished every moment spent with his son and grandson. He especially loved watching his grandson's sporting events and sharing with him life lessons and skills that will be carried on for years to come.

Cecil is survived by his loving wife, Carrie Hall, his son Thomas (Tonya) Herman Sr, and grandson Thomas Herman Jr. As well as his wife's children, son John (Amanda) Waugh and daughter Jessica Waugh and her grandchildren, William, Tatum and Izzy Waugh and Frankie, Gracie, and Alicia Hatton.

He is also survived by his sisters, Karen (Carl) King and Wanda (Karlton) Williamson; brothers-in-law Skip Porter and Weldon Smoot; sisters-in-law Nancy Hackworth, Joyce Snider, and Linda (Gary) Sollars, plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Thomas and Avenelle Herman; his first wife, Sharon Herman; his sisters, Rosemary Porter and Wilma Smoot; and in- laws Gaylord and Ruth Butcher.

Cecil's life was defined by kindness, faith, and love for his family. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
