Obituary

OWENS Carl E. Owens, 89, of London died August 1, 2016 in Springfield. Born March 15, 1927 in St. Louis, MO; he was a son of Roy and Ruth Irene (Kelsay) Owens. A World War II veteran of the Merchant Marines, where his convoy had survived several attacks; Carl had re-enlisted in the US Army and served during the Korean War. Carl had retired from Otis Elevator and loved to tinker with cars and tractors, so much so that he was known locally as the Datsun Doctor. Survivors include his wife Betty (Plumhoff) Owens; children George (Betty) Peyton, Chuck Peyton, Betty Hopkins and Karen (Kenny) Kelly-Johnson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother Edward Koch, sisters Mary Watts and Ann Dzengolewski and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Claude Elmer Owens and Frank Koch and sister Frances Mercurio. The family invites friends to call at the EBERLE-FISHER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 103 North Main Street, London from 4-6 PM Friday. No funeral ceremony will be observed.
