Obituary

FREED Brenda Lynette Freed, 62, passed away on April 8, 2014, at her home in London, Ohio. She was born on February 13, 1952, in Washington, Iowa, to Levi and Cora Ropp Miller.Brenda married Marcus Landis Freed on June 14, 1974, in Goshen, Indiana. They were happily married for almost 40 years, becoming parents of three and grandparents of 12.Brenda graduated from Iowa Mennonite High School in Kalona, Iowa, in 1970. She earned a BA in Education from Eastern Mennonite University in 1974 and a MA in Education from the University of Dayton in 1999. Brenda taught school for 25 years, many of those years as a first grade reading specialist, until she entered disability retirement in July, 2008.Brenda was a member of London Christian Fellowship, where she participated on the worship team and on the fellowship committee. She also volunteered at Madison County Hospital, London Correctional Institution, and the Country Closet Thrift Shop. Brenda enjoyed puzzles, such as Sudoku and crypto quotes, and exercise such as biking, having biked over 20,000 miles in the last 16 years. Brenda is survived by her husband, Marcus of London, Ohio her children: Ryan Freed, married to Kris, of London, Ohio; Shaun Freed, married to Joy of Xenia, Ohio; and Kara married to Jeff Thoman, of London, Ohio, and her grandchildren: Kalvary, Kaelyn, Glory, Jonah, Elena, Malachi, Kolby, Greta, Korban, Jackson, Landis, and Obadiah. Also surviving are her parents Levi and Cora (Ropp) Miller of London, brothers and sisters: Karla Knief, London, Ohio; Noel Miller, Altoona, Pennsylvania; Jerryl Miller, Reinholds, Pennsylvania; Marcia Fuller, Plainfield, Indiana; Dana Bontrager, Goshen, Indiana; Ronda Nissley, Springfield, Ohio; Kenlyn Miller, Harrisonburg, Virginia; and Kirby Miller, Irwin, Ohio, and other relatives. Brenda faced two significant health challenges in the last seven years. In 2007 she lost much of her memory and almost her life to encephalitis. In 2011, she was diagnosed with cancer. As her perceptions of earth seemed to dim, her perceptions of heaven increased. She spoke often of her dependence on God and acknowledged his help with the words: To God be the glory! Friends may call at the London Christian Fellowship from 2-4 and from 6-8 Saturday April 12, 2014. Celebration of Life Services will be held at the Maranatha Community Fellowship in Plain City, Ohio on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at 3 PM with Pastor Robert Swartz officiating. Interment and graveside services will follow at the Paint Memorial Cemetery, London. A memorial service will be held London Correctional Institution by invitation only.
