SHAW

With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we celebrate the remarkable 100 years of Annette Shaw, who peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.

Born September 23, 1925, in Springfield, Ohio, Annette was a daughter of Roy B. Gossard and Viola (Kelso) Gossard. With her family moving to Madison County while she was only three, Annette remained deeply connected to the community throughout her lifetime. She began her career in Columbus with the United States Employment Service. Later, she served as a Secretary and Treasurer for the United States Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service in London. She then stepped back to become a devoted homemaker. Annette created a house filled with warmth, laughter, and music. Her door was always open, her table always welcoming, and her heart always large enough to hold everyone who needed her.

In 1950, she married James V. Shaw, the love of her life. They shared 54 years of marriage built on mutual respect, partnership, and devotion before his passing in 2004.

Her faith was the foundation of her life. Becoming a member of the First Presbyterian Church of London in 1950, she found joy in worship and was passionate with sharing her faith with others through her work as a Deacon, teaching Sunday School, and remaining an active member of the church’s Women’s Association. Annette especially cherished her 66 years singing in the choir. Music was one of her greatest gifts and pleasures.

Annette’s commitment to fellowship and service extended far beyond her home. She was a proud 80-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as a Past Worthy Matron of the former Nellie Counts Chapter and was a current member of London Chapter #386 where she formed lifelong friendships and faithfully supported their mission. A former member of the 20th Century Club in London, Annette was also a longtime member of the Married Ladies Thimble Club, joining in 1966. She always cherished their time together sharing laughter, stories, and the art of needlework with dear friends.

A lifelong learner and lover of the arts, she found joy in reading countless books, expressing creativity through beautiful needlework, and participating in community theater. Whether performing on stage or sitting in the audience applauding others, she celebrated the power of storytelling and shared experiences.

Annette is survived by her daughter Susan (Larry) Taylor; grandchildren: Lisbeth (Jason) Duke, Lauren (Marc) LeRoux, Jordan Taylor, Brynn (Nathaniel) White, Marci (Don) Bradley, Mindy (John) Slaughter, and Tracie Gatten; great-grandchildren: Shiveley, David, Viola, and Rowan; as well as several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Viola, her beloved husband Jim Shaw, and her adored son David Shaw.

Visitation for family and friends will be held in the First Presbyterian Church of London, 211 Garfield Avenue, London, Ohio 43140, on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM. An Eastern Star service will be conducted by the members of her chapter beginning at 2:40 PM followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM with Pastor Désirée M. Youngblood officiating. Entombment will then follow in the church columbarium.
